Equipment

  • Amazon Basics Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 6 Quart

Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef browned and drained
  • 10 oz dry bowtie pasta or elbow macaroni
  • 1 quart beef broth or chicken broth 4 cups
  • 25 oz jarred pasta sauce or tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until no pink remains.  If you use 80/20 or greater, do not drain the excess fat from the browned meat, just leave it in the skillet as is.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients except the cheese - pasta, broth, pasta sauce, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powders, and Italian seasoning.  Place a lid over the skillet, then turn the heat down to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pasta is cooked al dente.
  • Stir in the shredded cheese, cover with a lid for another 5 minutes on medium-low, then remove from heat and serve.

Notes

Hamburger helper is great the next day, so doubling the batch and saving leftovers is a great way to cut down on dishes and have an extra meal prepped.  Just store the cooled hamburger helper in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
