I’m going to get straight to it.
I made a list of stuff I wanted to get done this winter now that there’s not as much to dos outside in the gardens and such. On top of the list, for the second year in a row – sewing. Well, guess what. I don’t like sewing that much. I made an ugly asymmetrical, but functional apron and it was straight up painful to finish it. So, on to the next thing. But wait – let me explain myself a bit first.
I used to be the type of person that would eat an entire meal I didn’t really care for or scraps off my kids’ plate just because I didn’t want it to go to waste. And honestly, I just have a “finish what you started” mentality, which is great…mostly. But, can we talk about this “stay in your lane” thing for a minute. Since when did it become illegal to switch lanes? I mean, if what’s in front of you is slowing you down, causing aggravation, frustration, a feeling of being stuck, and just getting in your way, what’s wrong with adjusting your path to move toward your ultimate destination in manner that’s appropriate, calculated, and within safe limits? I’ve gone through seasons of obsessing on sticking to the “plan” which makes it really hard to notice doors and short cuts the Lord places in my path to help me. So…sewing. I know I said I was going to fall in love with you this winter because I thought it would make me a better homemaker, but you know what? You’re just ok. And we’re not like, married or anything. So – for now, it’s best we go our separate ways. Maybe later, ok?
OK, now we can move on to the next thing. Painting and cleaning the building the goats live in. It got cold. I decided to wait until spring. Check. Onto the next one!
Ok, this is a big one, which is why I think it’s taken me so long to do. Switch to a toxin free home. Yep. Like, our entire house. Get all the fake, toxic stuff out, and replace it with plant based stuff. I’m talking cleaning supplies, toiletries, scented stuff, meds, all of it. Out. And I had a pretty good idea of how to go about it with minimal anxiety. I’ve been seeing ads for monthly delivery subscriptions for a while – which are perfect, because I don’t like leaving the house or grocery shopping. So, I figured I could get all of our household needs met that way, and then all that would be left was a to set up a natural med cabinet. Yikes. This gave me anxiety. Where do I get all the healthy things? Which brands are best? What do I need? How does it work? All the questions..
And then, I was at MOPS one morning, and one of my friends said something about Thieves cleaner. Oh yeah! I thought, I meant to order some of that stuff from her last year, and had heard it was simply amazing and knew essential oils were awesome but always felt intimidated by them. So naturally, I asked her “can I just buy one of those starter kits and you can teach me what I need to know?”
Well, fast forward to me getting my kit in the mail, skimming through the catalog and realizing that I could get allll of my plant based need fulfilled by this one company, hosting a class taught by my friend from MOPS, and learning about Essential Rewards – and I just sort of fell in love. Yeah, that’s it. I fell in love with customizing my monthly order to fill our home with oil infused products, learning about how everything we ingest, inhale, and touch can either build our cells up or break them down, getting a huge discount as a wholesale member, earning points back to redeem the next month, getting free oils for my big monthly order for our family of five, all of it just made sense.
And what I love most is that the starter kit comes with every day oils – the ones we truly do use most often. Like lavender, lemon, peppermint, frankincense, and stress away.
So, just to keep it simple, the reason I dove in is because we had a need for a toxic-free environment in our home. And YL checked every box without sacrificing quality. So, as our journey is still pretty new – I’ll be sharing as we go!
Oh, and remember that class I had? It was awesome! And I’d definitely recommend attending or asking a friend to host one for you, you may be surprised at how many people are waking up to the effects of toxins in our environments and looking for the solutions too!
When I got started I had a TON of questions on how to set up my monthly order, so I made an infographic (because I freakishly enjoy that kind of thing) with easy steps on getting set up! And…you know…may have also templated a welcome e-mail with my top fave resources too. Click Here and scroll down to find it.
