all about our fave DIY natural bug spray
Country life just isn’t possible without some amount of bugs. Bugs in your face when you’re flying down a gravel road on a four wheeler, picking ticks off of everywhere after walks in the woods, ant trails all over the place, catching lightning bugs after dark. Bugs are everywhere and thats ok, I don’t mind checking the babes for ticks.
But this year has been awful! I mean there are ticks and bugs everywhere, and it really does seem so much worse than any other summer I can recall, or maybe we are just outside a lot more?
Anyway – I whipped up this bug spray to take along to the creek and ball games with all things I had on hand.
There are lots of oils that have insect repellant properties, but I made sure to choose all oils that are safe for kiddos so I can spray mine up and down. Also all of these oils are relatively inexpensive, especially if you’re a wholesale member.
Oh! And don’t forget that star of literally every crunchy mom potion show – ACV. I buy big ole bottles from ALDI and use it for everything.
What You’ll Need..
- 1 8 oz. amber spray bottle (I buy these from Amazon and have had great luck with them not leaking or breaking)
- 4 oz. (half an 8 oz. spray bottle) of ACV
- 40 drops lemon EO
- 40 drops cedarwood EO
- 80 drops citronella EO
- 80 drops lavender EO
- 80 drops geranium EO
- Water (to fill up the rest of the bottle)
How to make bug spray..
Just add in all the ingredients and you’re done. Cute label optional. Can I tell you a secret? I don’t like using my Cricut at all. But since I bought it, I figure I might as well label my stuff. And it is cute, so kind of worth it! Nothing against the Cricut, I just don’t enjoy crafts.
Fill the bottle halfway with ACV then add the oils, then top off with water.
Then you get this bad boy – locked and loaded and ready to spray liberally every couple hours when bugs be crazy.
SO much better for us than the chemical stuff. Even the “natural” bug sprays from the store might not be as natural as you think!! I love the EWG app for checking to see what’s really in products because labeling can be deceptive.
Anyway – what is there a momma can’t conquer with a shelf full of oils, some amber bottles, and Pinterest on her side??
Grab these oils…
…at wholesale pricing when you get a starter kit! (plus – lemon and lavender come in the kit and citronella is free when you order a kit this month! Then you can just add cedarwood and geranium onto your kit order and be all set to make your bug spray)
