This post is about cooking with non-GMO, vitality essential oils to conveniently add flavor and nutritional density to your favorite recipes.
I may be compensated for links in this post at no additional cost to you!
When I started using essential oils more in depth this past year, one area I was pretty unversed in was ingestion. Is it safe to consume essential oils? How do you use them to cook or in food and drinks? I was starting pretty much from scratch!
But what I’ve learned is that essential oils are easy, safe, and beneficial to use in the kitchen and have so many purposes.
And Young Living has an entire line of Vitality Oils labeled specifically for ingestion.
I’ve used citrus oils to flavor water, thieves and lemon to make a warm tea to soothe a sore throat, herbaceous oils to add flavor and nutrition to broths, stews, soups, roasts, and so much more, lime in guacamole, and the list goes on!

Whether you’re a seasoned oiler or just dipping your toes in, vitality oils are an awesome way to expand your plant-based toolbox in the kitchen.
Essential oils are the lifeblood of the plant, and like most plant components are synergistic with the human body, complimenting it and supporting it without adverse effect.
Oils were considered a prized possession back in biblical days. They were found “in the homes of with wise” along with other precious treasures. Oils are extracted by steam distillation, resin tapping, or cold pressing. And pure essential oils are way more powerful than the plant alone. Just one drop goes a long, long way!
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is of Ruth going to the threshing floor at night to rub oils on the feet of Boaz. Before leaning about oils myself, this sins really make sense to me. But the feet have over 2000 pores and various vita flex points produce certain effects in various body systems. Plus, oils play heavily on the limbic system which is responsible for emotion.
So it makes perfect sense that applying oils to the feet of someone you respect and care for would have been customary in those time! And now, I get to rub oils on my children’s feet. Kind of like Vicks but without the endocrine disruptors.
Recipes & Ideas
I’ve also been loving our facebook community. All of the members in our team share recipes, diffuser blends, and non-toxic living tips in general. I’ve learned so much and still have a ton to learn! But I feel so more equipped to respond to our needs with plant based solutions. Which is a big win on the homestead front.
I also got this magazine in the mail with my starter kit. And when I saw Einkorn flour mentioned on the cover, it was pretty much love at first sight! You’ll noticed I talk about Einkorn quite a bit. Which is because most people who typically can’t tolerate gluten can eat it no problem.
Pinterest is full of awesome ways to use vitality oils too, check it out!
How to Shop Oils
Like anything of importance thats going directly on or in my body, quality is what matters most to me. I want to know where and how things I’m buying grow. And that if I’m investing in something to enhance the health of my family, it’s not contaminated, diluted, or modified. Just like finding a trusted source for meat, dairy, produce, etc. I trust Young Living’s seed to seal process and its easiest to shop my oil and non-toxic needs all in one place! Anyone can make one-time purchases from them at retail value, but I think the best way to go is getting a wholesale membership which you do by purchasing a starter kit.
One of my favorite parts of the starter kit is that it comes with several vitality oils along with every day oils. So you can start incorporating them by ingestion, inhalation (diffuser), and topically right away. I also love that you can maintain your wholesale membership without ordering monthly. Just by placing a 50PV (or $) minimum a year, your membership stays active.
However, I personally participate in Essential Rewards (the monthly order program) because we get all of our household products from YL. And I earn lots of points back and freebies by doing so! Essential Rewards is free to join at any time for any member. And you can drop out at no cost at any time too.
So as you can see, I’m pretty much hooked and love customizing my monthly order! (Baker Creek magazine not included, but hey – when you get oily mail and heirloom seed mail in the same day you have to take a pic!)
I’ll be updating this post with more videos as I make them to show how I’m using vitality oils on our homestead, but in the meantime – you can check out my link and start incorporating vitality oils into your kitchen!
