this post is about how to make all natural owie spray with witch hazel and a few essential oils.
Wow. Kids fall. A lot. In fact, they do a lot of risky, injury producing activities. Thats one reason I love them so much, they follow their heart at all times and are full of whimsy & clumsy & soooo cuuuutee.
My number one weapon against owies is kisses. Always has been and always will be. Any time they get hurt I first try to not react because y’all moms know they check with us to see if they should act hurt before they actually react 99% of the time.
But when the owie is real, I always ask them: How many kisses? And it’s usually somewhere between 1 and 8. Sometimes a 9 in there. Rarely above 10. But those kisses are gold. I think I even remember reading some research once about how physical touch really does help wound healing and I believe it!
One of my favorite thing about plants
is that their cellular structure is super similar to humans. Makes sense since God designed them to be of our use that they would be compatible with our bodies!
So when it comes to applying anything to our skin, especially an open wound – EOs are my fave – just liquid plants.
Here are the oils I use in our owie spray. One thing I’ve learned is that making potions isn’t an exact, black and white science. Its more of an art and really fun! There are tons of oils that have similar properties, so my recipe may look different than someone else’s and thats ok!
The Swiss army knife of oils, good for so many things. One of them being skin. It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and moisturizing properties.
This is another great skin oil with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Tea tree is super common in blemish blends too and for acne.
is a really powerful oil that actually protects skin cells. Its also used to reduce wrinkles, treat acne, and lots more. I diffuse Frank + Myrrh in my house every Sunday morning too!
has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties and can be used for allll things skin. Hives, rashes, scars, all the things.
is also just a plant that receives inflammation and soothes skin. So its the perfect addition to this spray and a must in your natural med cabinet! I get this unscented kind on Amazon. And all my oils are YL oils. They own the farms and the whole process from choosing the plant seeds to distilling and sealing the bottles. Around here we like to know our farmers. So thats important to me.
Oily Potions are one of my favorite gifts to give to new members, too. They’re super easy to make a few at a time and its fun to gift something we use and love to mommas just starting out. This spray is actually one of the gifts I’m giving to new member this month! (June)
Five minutes and done. All ready to go! Also – go ahead and make you an extra for your purse, and for grandmas and babysitters too! Triple antibiotic ointment and that kind of chemical stuff actually wipes out our natural, God-given good bacteria we need to protect and heal. Oils & oily potions compliment the body and do no harm while getting rid of the bad bacteria – win win!
